Are Corporations Becoming Better Citizens?

By: Worldview via WBEZ.org

In the last few years, many big-time corporations have been promoting their projects that work to improve education, public health, the environment and other social problems. In the business world, this is known as corporate social responsibility, or CSR.

Many companies have made significant contributions to societies around the globe. But it’s unclear whether they have really made room for social concerns, or if CSR is just a way for companies to respond to growing scrutiny of their business practices. Mark Kramer, senior fellow at the CSR Initiative at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and co-founder of the non-profit CSR consulting firm FSG, joins Worldview to dissect how corporate social responsibility works in today’s capitalist economies.
